2.PALAZZO MADAMA (and THE MUSEO CIVICO D’ARTE ANTICA)

A visit to the Palazzo Madama, which Napoleon once claimed for himself, is like taking an art history survey course.

Here, among the 70,000-piece collection in the Museo Civico, you’ll come across art, artifacts and decorative objects ranging from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period in an exquisite space that was once home to powerful Savoy duchesses, who served as regents until their sons came of age.

One of these consorts, Marie Jeanne of Savoy (1644-1724) greatly enriched the appearance of the palazzo, which eventually took on part of her sobriquet, “madama reale,” as its own name.
