MOLE ANTONELLIANA (and THE NATIONAL MUSEUM of CINEMA)

Torino vista dagli americani (articolo in inglese)

3. MOLE ANTONELLIANA (and THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CINEMA)

Italy’s best-known film center remains the Cinecittà studios in Rome, but Turin played a key role in the evolution of the country’s movie industry.

Here you’ll find Italy’s most extensive film museum, a visual extravaganza created by set designer Francois Confino that’s tucked into the city’s iconic Mole Antonelliana.

The museum is a repository of all things cinematic with a vast movie library, sections devoted to different film genres, recreated sets and historical memorabilia ranging from landmark screenplays, costumes and accessories like Star Wars masks to such personal items as Federico Fellini’s red scarf and letters.

Take the transparent elevator to the top of the museum for spectacular views of the city, Alps and countryside.

Nearby is the Cinema Massimo-MNC, where latest indie releases are screened; it also serves as the site for the city’s well-regarded film festivals.
